NSW to Norfolk Island Pelagic

Offshore Territories

Buller's Shearwater
White-bellied Storm Petrel
Cook's Petrel

Join us in October 2008 on this incredible opportunity to see rare seabirds of the western Pacific Ocean when we sail from New South Wales to Norfolk Island, maximising our time in Australian territory. This trip is timed to coincide with the southern migration of Cook’s, Pycroft’s and Mottled Petrels back to New Zealand. We will sail through the rarely visited waters between Norfolk Island and Noumea where in April 2007 several Collared Petrels were seen and photographed. Also in this area, just out of Australian Territory, Polynesian (White-throated) Storm Petrels were also seen in April 07.

Our expedition will be aboard the newly refurbished 60 foot (32 tonnes) twin masted sailing expedition schooner "Commitment".

On 4th October 2008 "Commitment" will depart Newcastle bound for Norfolk Island, roughly 1600km to the north east. Commitment has spent the last two summers doing tours in Antarctica and Chile and is owned by Newcastle based round-the-world sailor Tony Mowbray.

Collared Petrel

On the 11th October 2008 we will make the return journey to Newcastle. TRIP INCLUDES: Food, Accomm, Burley, Guide and Wet weather gear. Airfares NOT included.
